In this video, we say goodbye to Brighton Beach, the neighborhood where many people begin their life in New York. We lived here for about a year and decided to show Brighton not as a tourist postcard, but as we experienced it ourselves: the ocean, the boardwalk, Russian shops, fruit, belyashi (fried meat pastries), pharmacies, doctors, a bank, old houses, new buildings, the noise of the subway, and that very atmosphere of "Russian America." Brighton Beach is a strange place. On the one hand, there's the ocean, the beach, Coney Island nearby, Russian speech, understandable shops, and a lot of other things that help you get started. On the other hand, there are old buildings, a feeling of being stuck, strange doctors, expired goods in stores, and an atmosphere that eventually makes you want to move on. For us, this video is a memory of the first stage of life in America and an honest account of a neighborhood that can be a good starting point, but not necessarily a place you want to stay forever.
