The Biggest Mistake Guitarists Make In Bossa Nova

Many bossa nova rhythms are commonly written and taught in 4/4, and there’s nothing wrong with learning them that way. The challenge comes when we start feeling every beat equally, which can make the groove sound stiff or overly mechanical. In this lesson, I show how practicing with a metronome in 4/4 can help you learn the rhythm clearly, but shifting your internal pulse to 2 can make the music feel much more natural, relaxed, and authentically Brazilian. Using “The Girl from Ipanema” as an example, we explore how a simple change in feel can completely transform your groove. Really want to perfect your Bossa Nova?
