Child's Eye Exam at 3 years of age- Checking Visual Acuity
Optometrist Dr Karen MacDonald walks us through assessing a 3 year-old child's visual acuity during a comprehensive eye exam. She first assesses his near vision and then checks his distance acuity. Optometrists use a variety of methods for doing child exams. She uses a patch to cover the child's eyes to see how they work on their own at the different distances. She is using symbol charts, with shapes like squares, hearts and houses, that are easy for a child to identify at this age.
