Don't Blame MMDCEs for Choked Drains – Local Government Minister

According to the Minister, the responsibility for desilting storm drains lies with the Urban Roads Department, which receives the funding for that work, while MMDCEs are responsible only for primary drains within their jurisdictions. He argued that it is therefore unfair to accuse District Chief Executives of neglecting responsibilities that fall outside their mandate.
