Premature flying-fox delivered by C section: this is Billi Maree's story

Billi Maree was born by C section 10 weeks ago, after her mother suffered a devastating head injury and ended up on the side of the road, dying. After 24 hours in care, her condition worsened and I took her to the vet to see if her baby was alive with a heartbeat, and how big her skull was and if there was a possibility that she was a viable and would survive a caesarean birth; this is not an exact science, just a guide to the baby's potential survival. The vet measured the baby's skull size which seemed developed enough for her to be potentially a survivor; a Caesarean section was performed on her dying mum, and baby Billi Maree was delivered. It took around a hour for her to be fully revived, breathing for herself without assistance, but she was a strong little girl and went from strength to strength in the following few days.
