Why I'm Building A Life Here

I’m building a self-sustaining life outside the modern dependency model documenting the systems, leverage, health, and land design behind it in real time. In today's video, I share a little more of the lifestyle we're creating here in Southeast Asia and why we chose this path. Recently, we spent a few thousand dollars renovating a local guest house that we found through Facebook Marketplace. The house wasn't taken from anyone, and it wasn't purchased as an investment property. It came about through a simple agreement with a local family who wanted to move closer to the city so their daughter could attend a reputable college. The daily commute from the countryside was becoming difficult, and moving closer to educational opportunities made sense for them. For us, it provided a place where family and friends can stay when they visit, allowing us to spend more intentional time together. I think there can sometimes be misconceptions about foreigners moving to Southeast Asia. The reality is that many of us aren't here to take something away from local communities. We're here because we're searching for something different. A slower pace of life. A stronger connection to nature. A deeper sense of community. More time with the people we care about. Less consumption and more intention. The guest house forms part of a bigger vision we're building here. A place where family can gather, where food can be grown in the garden, where meals come from the land, and where life feels a little more connected to what really matters. This isn't about escaping society. It's about creating a life that aligns more closely with our values. A life with more optionality, more simplicity, and more purpose. Thanks for following along as we continue documenting the journey. Stay tuned for future updates as we continue improving the property, growing the gardens, and sharing what we're learning along the way. — FreeHumanCode
