As a court portraitist at the court of Spanish King Philip II, she gained European fame. Her talent was recognised by, among others Michelangelo and Giorgio Vasari, and her portraits full of psychological depth, still fascinate with their subtlety, elegance and unique capture of the models' character. The film introduces lesser-known facts from her life, from studying in her hometown of Cremona, through travelling and working at the court of Philip II, to the late years spent in Sicily.
