The first commercial recording of the song was by Brazilian singer Pery Ribeiro in 1962. However, the more well known version was recorded in March 1963 by Stan Getz and João Gilberto, featuring the uncredited vocal debut of João's wife, Astrud Gilberto. The "Girl from Ipanema" was a 17-year-old Brazilian schoolgirl named Heloísa Eneida Menezes Paes Pinto (now known as Helô Pinheiro). In 1962, songwriters Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes watched her walk past the Veloso bar in Rio de Janeiro on her way to the beach, which inspired the bossa nova classic. #heartopia #ipanema
