In 2006, Trafigura sought to dispose of 500 cubic meters of toxic waste from petroleum refining stored on its cargo ship Probo Koala. After four months at sea and several refusals, the ship docked in Côte d'Ivoire, where a local company, with the consent of the authorities, dumped the waste in Abidjan without any treatment.
