Monte Cristo Peak - Washington State

Monte Cristo was once the center of a mining boom in the late 1800s that attracted thousands of miners, businessmen, laborers and settlers into the rugged Cascade Mountains. Today, it is a ghost town that serves as a hub for outdoor enthusiasts to explore and marvel at the spectacular world class mountain scenery. Monte Cristo Peak was first conquered by James Keyes in 1923, when the north face glacier extended to the summit. Today, the glacier has receded far below the summit, and the most viable route to the summit climbs out of Glacier Basin up the east face and then wraps around the summit block to the west side. This video takes you through the old town site of Monte Cristo, and up to Glacier Basin to our base camp. From there we documented the accent to the east saddle, just 300’ below the summit of Monte Cristo Peak.
