Intoy / Tuna Hunter In 2008, the KBS Special production crew boarded a tuna fishing boat in the Sulawesi Sea, east of Borneo, and spent over a month on board. They captured on camera the solitary battle between the fishermen and the sea, catching tuna with their bare hands, using no mechanical devices. They caught their first tuna 16 days after setting sail. By brutally hitting the tuna's head with a wooden stick, they managed to catch a tuna weighing over 70 kg. On the 23rd day of sailing, another crew member hauled in a Big Eye tuna weighing over 100 kg. During the voyage, all but two of the 14 tuna hunters caught tuna. Intoy, a 16-year-old rookie, worked on the boat for just over a month but received no pay. Because he hadn't caught any tuna, his labor costs didn't cover his expenses. However, Intoy knew the rules of tuna fishing well. Seven years later, Intoy's story isn't over. The hardships and fears remain the same. As always, the voyage is a constant ordeal. After enduring scorching temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius, storms arrive, bringing a constant fear of death. At night, they sleep in cramped quarters. Sulawesi pirates, who threaten not only the tuna but also the crew's lives, remain a source of fear.
