Forestry Mulching in the Snow

This video shows off-season forestry mulching work done in the middle of winter, with snow on the ground, in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. I don’t take on customer jobs during the winter months, but it’s a good time to work through areas of my own property that haven’t ever really been attended to. The goal here isn’t a big transformation or clearing land for a new use — it’s simple forest care. I’m thinning out saplings, mulching brush, and cleaning up deadfall in areas that have grown in naturally over time. This kind of maintenance helps keep the woods healthier, more accessible, and easier to manage long-term. Most of the footage is time-lapse, focusing on the steady, methodical process of forestry mulching in winter conditions. Snow on the ground adds a different challenge and a different look, but the work itself stays the same: slow, deliberate passes and letting the machine do what it’s designed to do. All of the mulching in this video is done with a Kubota KX040 excavator equipped with an Indeco IMH4 forestry mulcher. No rush, no big reveal — just forestry mulching in the snow.
