The Oil Leak: Strike over, holidays begin (RHS Weekly News Dec. 19, 2025)

The United Teachers of Richmond union voted to approve the contract with the district, ending the strike officially. Ninety-two percent of teachers voted to approve the new contract on Monday. A total of 1,234 votes were cast. Of the total ballots cast, 1,143 members voted YES, 91 voted NO. Our reporters Mian Akasha and Pratik Aryal went to ask members of UTR what this new agreement means and how they feel about it. In honor of the holiday season, we had a spirit week, in which our students dressed up to show off their school spirit. Monday we snuggled up in pajamas, Tuesday we dressed in holiday accessories, Wednesday we brought anything but a backpack, Thursday was grinch day, and Friday we wore our class colors.. Our reporters Johnathan Nil Cruz, Kevin Pena, Luis Javier, Gurvir Kaur, Kimverly Guillen and Doris Paulich went around capturing school spirit. The season of giving is upon us, and we are getting our Christmas lists ready. Our reporters Josseline Gil, Maritza Correa, Dayanara Barranco, and Derlin Cruz asked students and staff what they want for Christmas. The strike lasted for a week, and came to an end when the teacher’s union came to an agreement with the district. Reporters Camila Pantoja and Jennifer Bolaj went out to interview teachers, asking about what it was like to be on strike and their thoughts on the agreement that was reached. Here’s what they captured. The Bay Area Peacekeepers, B.A.P. for short, are running their annual holiday toy drive. Our reporters, Kevin Pena, Jonathan Nil Cruz, and Luis Jvaier went out to get some information about it. Let's see what they captured. During the strike, many people were making artwork at schools throughout the district. Our reporters Joanna Vallejo, Carla Morales and JosueFunes Baires interviewed the lead artist, RHS Teacher Daniel Cervantes, to understand the meaning of the art and its importance during the movement. The year is coming to an end. Let's see what goals people have. Our reporters Guadalupe Lemus, Marbella Marquez, Genevieve Sanchez, and Ammy Rivera went out and asked students and teachers what is something they are looking forward to in the new year. The boys soccer team went up against Albany High on our Soccer Field yesterday at 6:00 P.M. The boys currently have won, lost and tied their first three games of the season. The Oilers are set to play a home game tomorrow against Atwater High School at 11 a.m. Let’s see what our reporters Ryan Reyes and Kristian Rios captured about the team’s season so far.
