Dewey Balfa and Shirley Ray Bergeron on Rendez-vous des Cajuns, September 7, 1991
Happy birthday to Cajun fiddle legend and South Louisiana Ambassador Dewey Balfa (March 20, 1927- June 17, 1992)! Faced with the daunting task of starting a local repository of cultural heritage materials in the early Seventies, Dr. Barry Ancelet asked Balfa how he thought he might proceed. His reply was "Record one tape and put it on a shelf, then do it again!" Because of that advice, the Archives of Cajun and Creole Folklore at the Center for Louisiana Studies exists! Thank you Mr. Dewey! Here is a 1991 clip of Balfa accompanied on guitar by his friend and songwriting legend Shirley Ray Bergeron.
