"Es un giro en mi carrera": el actor Ricardo Gómez habla del personaje "más complicado" que ha hecho

He was just one of the family. The little boy who was allowed anything. The one who wanted to be an astronaut one day and the next the Masked Rider. We saw him grow in every episode of Cuéntame, the longest-running and most successful series in Spain. Time has passed, and now he's an actor who seeks to expand his reach in everything he does, without revealing his limits. He is Ricardo Gómez (Madrid, 1994), Carlitos Alcántara, now in the role of Diego Sorroche, the sinister and dark Civil Guard in the series Romancero (produced by The Mediapro Studio), which premieres on Amazon Prime next Friday. "Somehow, I've gone from being the boy from Spain to playing the role of an unredeemable son of a bitch." It's the first time he's played a bad guy on screen. "I don't know if it was necessary, but I certainly loved doing it and being trusted with this role, which has nothing to do with me, because it's clear that it wasn't easy to ask someone to perform a role they hadn't done before." Romancero, a six-part series, thirty minutes each, is a story that straddles a thriller, science fiction, a western, and the supernatural, which Ricardo Gómez experienced from the highest personal demands. Playing "a bastard" He changed his habits and routines. "I wanted my character to look nothing like me, not even physically. I went to the gym every day, something I've never done. I went on a strict diet, the next best thing. I saw how my muscles got bigger, and at the same time, I used the bad mood that diet caused me as a starting point to build the character." And the Madrid-born actor claims he spent months feeling very angry: "Because waking up at six in the morning, eating rice porridge and a protein shake, not being able to have a few beers or socialize except to go to the gym and do push-ups, was something I really disliked, but it was very useful for me to play the role of someone (Diego Sorroche) who is a jerk, a shady guy who has nothing to do with you." Accustomed to living in the spotlight of fiction since he was seven years old, he says he owes his balance and normalcy largely to his mother and brother. "The people who, when I was a child and a teenager, were there to know how to put a stop to it, because when people encounter the child who is on their screens at home every week, they tend to like you all the time, and that reality is difficult to change later." Learning to accept reality, like when Ricardo Gómez learned to embrace his fears. "I was a kid who got picked up at home by a car and put on a set to film Cuéntame. I didn't feel like I was acting; I was just playing. And there comes a time when you realize you have to make a decision. I knew I wanted to make a living from this profession, and at that moment, you have to push and shift into higher gear. That's when the fears set in, and I started preparing for the sequences, losing my innocence, and paradoxically, I started acting worse (laughs). Because you're honing your technique and you have to open all the doors, some of them the wrong ones. And I'm still at it; I feel like I'm never stopping learning," says Gómez. Romancero, formerly Cuéntame, is also now La Ruta, another series that chronicles the phenomenon of endless nights and days of clubbing, drugs, sex, excesses, and bacaladera music (this year's Ondas Award for Best Drama Series), a phenomenon that fizzled out just as Ricardo Gómez was born, in the mid-nineties. "I was incredibly excited to make a series like this, which depicts a time I didn't live through, and whose five-month shoot was extremely physically demanding," he says, referring to someone who is a regular in a field—series—in which he loves to participate, however curiously. "As a viewer, I prefer to be told a story in a two-hour movie." For someone accustomed to elevating his characters, twisting them a thousand times, and imbuing them with complex and contradictory nuances, the next screen seems inevitable. He has a story, a script he wrote, and the decision to direct it. Ricardo Gómez inhabits a thousand lives, like when he played in "el barrio" (the neighborhood) of San Genaro, but now thousands of miles away. #ricardogómez #cinema #Spanishcinema Follow Àngels Barceló for all the latest news, analysis, and entertainment on the leading Spanish radio show, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Comment, subscribe, and hit the bell if you want to stay updated immediately 🔔 📱 SOCIAL MEDIA: https://linktr.ee/HoyporHoy ✅ WhatsApp for the show (638 31 34 66): https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=3... 👀 All our news: https://cadenaser.com/cadena-ser/hoy-... 🎧 Listen to your favorite section: https://cadenaser.com/podcast/cadena-...
