Climbing Cerro Chalten (Fitz Roy) via the Franco-Argentina
Chris Farrah and I set off to climb Fitz Roy via the historic Franco-Argentina route up the southeast face of the mountain. This was my first climb in the Chalten Massif and it was a very humbling experience even though we bagged a summit. We climbed the route in a 22 hour push from Paso Superior on February 4, 2022 and spent the following 4 or so days in isolation recovering from COVID. Billy and Sam summited only a couple hours after us but ended up open bivying at La Silla. They came back to camp at Paso Superior the next morning in the rain after what sounded like a miserable night. This place is otherworldly.
