This time, I visited the main store of Classic Football Shirts, one of the world's largest soccer uniform specialty stores, in Manchester, England for the first time. They started as an online store in 2006, and opened a brick-and-mortar store in Manchester in 2018. This store is still the flagship store that doubles as the headquarters, and is a place that is like a culmination of football culture. The store has two floors, with uniforms and goods mainly from the English Premier League on the first floor, and women's and children's items, as well as items from clubs and national teams in other European countries, lined up in a narrow space in the basement. The basement also has a cafe space, a monitor for public viewing, a PlayStation, and clippings from football magazines, making it a space that is fun not only for shopping but also for staying there. During this visit, I was able to actually touch a wide range of uniforms, from the golden age of the Premier League in the 1990s to modern models, and check the prices and condition. In particular, there was a wide selection of vintage models of popular clubs such as Manchester United, City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal, making it an irresistible lineup for collectors. For example, there are real Manchester United away uniforms (terry cloth) from the 1990s, City's red shirt from the Le Coq Sportif era (super rare in Japan), and Celtic's long-sleeved model from the Larsson era, all in good condition and priced at around 25,000 to 50,000 yen, which is reasonable considering the quality. Some models may be reprinted or replicas, but many of them have the original details intact, so you can enjoy determining their authenticity. What was impressive was that the price range of uniforms is generally high in England, as there is no private sales like Mercari. Masterpieces from overseas clubs such as Ajax, Brazil, PSV, Juventus, Real Madrid, and Newcastle (Shearer era) from the 1990s are traded for around 30,000 to 40,000 yen, reflecting their rarity. The corner presentation, unique to Manchester, is also impressive, with United and City displayed on separate racks, creating a space that evokes local love, which is also one of the attractions. In particular, City's 90s items (such as shirts sponsored by Thomas Cook and made by Kappa) have become popular again due to Oasis wearing them, and are still being sold for around 40,000 to 60,000 yen. The store also has shelves for less than 30 pounds, and many items perfect for souvenirs, such as original design T-shirts and reproduction shorts. The designs are based on two themes, the red of United and the light blue of City, to symbolize Manchester, and the balance that takes into consideration both supporters is excellent. In the basement floor, there is an amazing number of women's and children's uniforms lined up, and there is an area here that is almost impossible to find in a normal vintage shop. It is also perfect for choosing souvenirs for families and partners. There was a wide selection, from strong clubs such as Inter, Barcelona, and Paris SG to minor teams in recent years whose designs have become a hot topic, such as Sociedad (with Takefusa Kubo's number!) and Versailles. What was even more impressive was that the uniforms were roughly divided by era and club, and the price range and condition differences according to era were clearly visible at a glance. Most of the uniforms were in the 30,000 to 40,000 yen price range, while the most popular models and those in good condition were 60,000 to 70,000 yen, while the latest models, less popular teams, and kids' and women's uniforms were around 6,000 to 12,000 yen, making for very reasonable pricing. There was so much to see this time that I ended up staying for almost two hours, but I ended up not buying anything, and still enjoyed the space, which felt like a soccer museum. This is the only place in the world where you can see such a large collection in one place. It is a spot that I highly recommend to vintage lovers, collectors, and just plain soccer fans. If you visit Manchester, be sure to stop by between watching a game and sightseeing. It is a unique place where you can experience the "real texture" that you cannot see in online shops.
