Male Pileated Woodpecker Dwarfs Other Visitors At Cornell Feeders – Jan. 13, 2021

A male Pileated Woodpecker arrives in front of the Cornell Lab FeederWatch cam at Sapsucker Woods and gives viewers an opportunity to compare his size with some of the other common feeder species. Pileated Woodpeckers are about the size of an American Crow, and they are the largest species that frequents the feeders at this site. This FeederWatch cam is located in the Treman Bird Feeding Garden at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York. Perched on the edge of both Sapsucker Woods and its 10-acre pond, these feeders attract both forest species like chickadees and woodpeckers as well as some species that prefer open environments near water like Red-winged Blackbirds.
