The Fender Custom Shop’s Tomatillo Stratocaster offers discerning players classic design aesthetics, modern refinements and a truly “one of a kind” sonic twist, thanks to its trio of special formula single-coil pickups and unique wiring scheme. This exquisite instrument’s pickups are designed around alnico 2 magnets, imbuing them with a smooth, broken-in chime that is reminiscent of original alnico 5 specimens from the 1950s. The Custom Shop then added its “½ blender wiring” to the proceedings, transforming the Tomatillo Strat’s second tone control into a blend pot while the pickup switch is in Positions 1 and 2, thereby allowing players to further sculpt and customize their tone, by mixing in the neck pickup to taste. Fender spared no expense in selecting the very best materials for this premium Stratocaster: A two-piece select alder body is finished in a lightly-reliced flash coat lacquer, allowing the wood to breathe and resonate. The blender pot allows you to blend the neck and bridge pickups, and the special tone cap & resistor offer a super-useable rhythm tone in the neck position. The pair of Custom Shop Loaded Nocaster pickups includes a hand-wound loaded single-coil bridge pickup and open-loaded neck pickups, both wired to the three-way pickup switch with our tonally flexible “Modified ’51 Nocaster” wiring. Position 3 selects the neck pickup alone, with a .001uF capacitor and 10K resistor for a highly usable rhythm tone with slightly rolled-off volume and tone. Position 2 offers the neck pickup alone, wired directly to the volume pot, while Position 1 offers the bridge pickup alone, with volume and blend pot to mix in the neck pickup to taste.
