On June 6th, a victory parade was held for Wakatakakage, who won the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament. Approximately 15,000 people gathered on the street in front of the station in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, to celebrate. Wakatakakage returned triumphantly, led by the marching band of his alma mater, Yoshiida Elementary School. This victory, his first in 25 tournaments, came after overcoming injuries. The parade was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic following his previous victory in 2022, making the joy of the fans who gathered particularly profound. One person, who brought a cute handmade fan, said, "I'm not his mother, but I was so happy. I always watch him and pray that he doesn't get injured, so I'm really glad." Another man, who attended the same high school as Wakatakakage, said, "I was so happy, I was deeply moved. I was aiming for the front row, so I was able to take the photos I wanted." The venue was filled with the three Onami brothers: Wakatakamoto, the eldest son who retired after the summer tournament, and Wakamotoharu, the second son who continues to aim for greater heights. Responding to the loud cheers and applause, Wakatakakage made a powerful declaration: "Taking this victory as an opportunity, I will strive to reach the next rank, Ozeki, so I would appreciate your continued support. Thank you very much for today." In an interview after the ceremony, Wakatakakage smiled and said, "My son recently won the Wanpaku Sumo tournament, so we talked about how this is a double victory." Wakakatakakage has brought great courage and inspiration to Fukushima. Expectations are high for his further success.
