Team Associated RC28R Side Damper Tube Oil Test: 30k vs 40k vs 50k With Lap Data Team Associated RC28R side damper tube tuning for 1/28 scale racers. In this video, we test different oil weights in the Team Associated RC28R side damper tubes at IAM-RC Raceway in Manassas, Virginia. We compare 30k, 40k, and 50k oil to see how each setup changes side-to-side chassis movement, bump control, rotation, stability, and driver confidence on track. The side damper tubes work together with the side torsion bars. The torsion bars help control chassis roll and side bite, while the damper tubes slow down and smooth out that movement. In simple terms, the torsion bars absorb the side load, and the damper tubes help control how quickly the car reacts and recovers. The goal of this test is not to tell every racer which oil weight is “best.” Track grip, driving style, tires, torsion bar choice, and layout can all change how the car feels. Instead, we start from the box-stock setup, make one damper tube oil change at a time, collect lap data, and share driver feedback so you have something to consider in your own testing and tuning journey. In our testing, the lighter 30k oil allowed the car to react more freely and transfer weight quicker. The thicker 50k oil slowed the side movement down and gave the car a more controlled, stable feel but the least amount of turn-in. The 40k oil gave us a middle-ground option between quicker rotation and added stability.
