TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS HOLD MASS PAYMENT RECYCLING TO THE YOGYAKARTA PALACE Tens of thousands of residents, along with village heads and village officials from the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), held a mass parade and visitation to the Yogyakarta Palace on Thursday, April 2, 2026. They represented 438 villages and came to the Yogyakarta Palace to commemorate the 80th birthday of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. In the parade, participants brought a variety of agricultural products and superior potential from their respective regions. The crops brought were diverse, ranging from cassava, papaya, rice, sweet potatoes, coconuts, to yams and vegetables. The group also brought livestock such as chickens, geese, ducks, and birds. One of the most eye-catching items was a mountain of shallots weighing one quintal brought by representatives from Canden Village, Jetis Subdistrict, Bantul Regency. The General Chairperson of the Yogyakarta Village Head and Village Officials Association, Gandang Hardjanta, explained that this event was a form of respect and an expression of gratitude from the community to the Sri Sultan. Gandang emphasized that the gunungan (mountains) and agricultural produce presented to the Yogyakarta Palace would not be enjoyed solely by the palace. Instead, they would be redistributed to the community through the local government at the regency level. Gandang revealed that, according to reports, approximately 12,000 people attended the event. He ensured that each village's participation was based solely on their own sincerity and capabilities. Gandang also expressed his appreciation to all parties involved and apologized to the wider community if the procession caused any disruption to their daily activities.
