I Cast a Mirror From Molten Metal (Forgotten Bronze Age Alloy) - HDR Re-upload

Ancient metalworkers were far more advanced than we often give them credit for. Their craftsmanship was meticulous, and their understanding of alloying allowed them to create metals tailored for specific purposes - including mirrors long before glass‑silvering existed. In this video, I cast and polish a working metal mirror using a forgotten ancient alloy once popular among the wealthy over 3,000 years ago. The alloy is known today as speculum: a precise mix of 68% copper and 32% tin. It’s extremely hard, very brittle, and notoriously difficult to cast - but when polished, it becomes a colour‑neutral, first‑surface mirror. Speculum was so optically pure that it continued to be used for scientific instruments and early telescopes well into the modern era. In this project, I recreate a Greek‑style mirror using this alloy, complete with mythological symbolism inspired by Persephone and Hades on the reverse. Note: Re-uploaded in proper HDR as the original never processed correctly. #MetalCasting #BronzeCasting #AncientTechnology #BronzeAge #LaserEngraving #AncientGreece #HistoricalCraft #3Printing #MirrorMaking
