Skyscan Satellite TV commercial from 1985
Satellite TV advertisement from the UK ,broadcast in the late 80's around the beginning of home satellite tv . Skyscan was the company name . The inventor of this product was Howard Rosen who currently resides in Canada, a prolific inventor known for contributions in the art of electronic innovation . What a time that was. I was the 4th in the door at the Skyscan Company based in Maidenhead, in the UK. The product was product in Canada by Howard Rosen's company (I think it was ADI or some-think like that), we had 1000 units a month coming in the door, the dish was made from a Boat fibreglass builders in Kent and the LNB from China (MTI). I seam to remember a 1.2m system sold for £1000 with a 1.5m for £1200. With a sales team we managed to get in to about every high street TV shop throughout the UK. I remember the wonderful times we had over the 6 years that we were trading, but with the delays with Astra 1 some 18 months we just did not have the TV content and sales decreased, then BSB were there with the square dish and then Amstrad. Skyscan were just too early for the Satellite TV market in the UK. The doors closed in 1991 being the 2nd from last to go. I continued to make a business repairing Skyscan equipment and upgrades, over the time some 9000 units were sold there was a market to be had. Roger Miles. [email protected]
