Shortwave radio waves arrive from far-off overseas. These waves travel along several different routes to reach the antenna. Among these routes, there are the shortest (short path) and the longest (long path), which I've tried to explain clearly. It's also important to know that there's a difference (a discrepancy) between the direction of each country and continent from Japan's perspective and the shortest route (direction) the radio waves take. To understand this, you need to know about and understand the concept of great-circle routes. If you point your antenna in the wrong direction when trying to receive a broadcast station, you won't receive a strong signal. I've tried to explain this using a video, but the explanation might not be very clear, and some people might misunderstand. If anything is unclear, please ask in the comments. I might not be able to answer perfectly, though...
