APTA SE+INCOSE TWG+INCOSE UK RIG Webinar 5th November 2024 The Northern Line Extension Programme

Abstract: An extension to London Underground's Northern Line, from Kennington to Battersea, was delivered into service in 2021. It comprised two new deep tube stations and 3.2 KM of new twin tunnels and track, plus associated systems, including signaling & control, communications, and power. The project faced significant challenges. This presentation will include how the application of systems thinking and systems engineering principles contributed to overcoming those challenges and achieve the successful delivery of a significant extension to the London Underground system on time and to budget. This presentation was given by the Head of Engineering (David Smith) and the Senior Systems Engineer (Dave Thompson), for the extension. They described the key factors that led to successful delivery of this major programme of works for Transport for London.
