Money may not grow on trees, but salad does!

Grow your own salad with Chief Kubo’s Prize South Sea Salad Trees (Abelmoschus manihot). You will be amazed at how easy it is to make your salad trees once you have have one established! A little about salad trees...In reality, they are not trees at all, but are in the same family as okra and woody hibiscus. In a subtropical climate (like Florida's) they grow like trees! Easy to grow and propagate readily from cuttings. They originate from Southeast Asia and grow as perennials in zones 9 through 11. They love full sun, but can be grown in partial sun, as well. They are extremely pest and disease-resistant, and the best part? They produce exactly what the name implies – salad! The leaves and flowers can be eaten raw or cooked – use raw as part of a hearty salad, or add them to your favorite stir fry. Either way, they are delicious and nutritious being high in Vitamins A, C, iron and protein (12% protein!). The Reid Farm specializes in selling plants and trees that we grow right here in Deland, Florida. If we are selling it, we are growing it!
