Justyna Stępień: "Thinking with and for More/than/human World in Artistic Practices"

This keynote lecture explores how, in the context of today’s global polycrisis, we can think and create with and for the more-than-human world. The talk introduces a “more-than-human” approach that emphasizes relationships between different forms of life and proposes a new understanding of knowledge as a shared, interspecies process. Particular attention will be given to contemporary artistic practices that not only represent but actively participate in shaping ethical and epistemological frameworks. Justyna Stępień is an Associate Professor at the University of Lodz, specializing in literary and cultural studies, and a co-founder of the Posthumanities Research Centre. Her research focuses on contemporary art, feminist theory, new materialisms, and critical posthumanism. She is the author of "Posthuman and Nonhuman Entanglements in Contemporary Art and the Body" (Routledge, 2022). This lecture is part of the international symposium: “Posthumanism and Contemporary Art Practices” held on May 7, 2026, at the LMTA Balcony Theatre.
