Como foi meu primeiro contato com HIV e aids

The first reports Dr. Drauzio heard about AIDS came from the United States, back in the 1980s. Immunosuppressed patients and young homosexuals in California were being affected by a type of pneumonia, presenting with Kaposi's sarcoma throughout their bodies. It was the beginning of the epidemic. In African countries and also here in Brazil, AIDS was devastating. Due to all the stigma related to the LGBTQIAP+ population, the rest of the population felt safe and only noticed the infection when the condition was already in a very advanced stage – usually irreversible. In the 1990s, however, medications were developed that revolutionized treatment, and since then, science has only advanced. Drauzio recounts his first contact with patients living with HIV and AIDS.
