Over 1,000 cadet constables begin training in Ondangwa - nbc
1,061 cadet constables are undergoing nine months of basic training at the Ruben Danger Ashipala Police Training Centre at Ondangwa, in the Oshana Region. The training aims to develop them into officers capable of serving the community with fairness and professionalism. The training runs concurrently with similar police trainings being offered at the Pius Joseph Kaundu Police Training Centre in the Omaheke Region and the Simon Mutumba Training Centre in the Zambezi Region, which brings the total number of cadets in training to 2,004. Seven months will be spent on theory and physical training, with a further two months of integrated learning at various police stations countrywide. Oshana Police Commander Commissioner Naftal Sakaria delivered a speech on behalf of Inspector General Joseph Shikongo. "Policing requires unwavering commitment, integrity and genuine passion to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The training of these cadet constables will ensure that they are transformed to become guardians of justice, pillars of society and protectors of peace and security." During their training, they will train to become physically fit and possess tactical skills and understand the values that define the police force. "The police basic training is not just a course; it is an intense and comprehensive programme designed to equip cadet constables with the skills, knowledge and values necessary to serve and protect our society. You are currently undergoing intensive training in various aspects of police disciplines, such as the basics of law, policing, charge office administration and management, drill and musketry, border and installation guard management, basic first aid, public order management, ICT, and basic traffic law enforcement, as well as physical education, among others." Cadet constables were urged to master the vision, mission and core values that define the organisation, which include synergy, ethics and efficiency, patriotism, accessibility, innovation and being customer-centric.
