A special edition of the program Harithachintkal, broadcast by All India Radio Kavaratti on the occasion of World Oceans Day on June 8. The program discusses the conservation of the oceans, which cover two-thirds of the earth's surface, and the serious environmental challenges they face. Through this story, he explains how uncontrolled fishing and plastic waste thrown into the sea affect the marine ecosystem and the livelihood of fishermen. Ocean and Climate Change (Scientific Analysis): Al Badish, a researcher at the Natural Conservation Foundation (NCF), a renowned research institute based in Bangalore, talks about the scientific importance of the ocean: Blue Carbon: The ocean helps reduce global warming by absorbing 25 to 30 percent of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Heat absorption: The ocean absorbs 90 percent of the total heat on Earth. Ocean Currents & Water Cycle: The role of the ocean in keeping the Earth cool like an air conditioner and in ensuring regular monsoon rains. What can we do?: Practical suggestions such as not dumping plastic waste into the sea, completely eliminating single-use plastic, and reducing our carbon footprint.
