The January Uprising was a revolution in regions of the former Poland-Lithuania that was aimed at putting an end to Russian occupation and for the Poles to regain their independence. It began on 22 January 1863 and continued until the last insurgents were captured by the Russian Army. A confluence of factors rendered the revolution inevitable in early 1863.
