We arrived in St. Maarten right on time at 7:30 a.m. After a hearty breakfast, we set off around 9:00 a.m. on the shore excursion booked through TUI: "Snorkeling and Beach Time by RIP Boat, passing Maho Beach." Our guide told us a lot about St. Maarten during the excursion. Maho Beach is a popular tourist attraction on St. Maarten. The island (the southern part) is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, while the northern part, Saint-Martin, belongs to France. They share a land border and are connected by an open border crossing. Around 1:30 p.m., we were back in the port of Philipsburg and strolled past the souvenir stalls again to buy our obligatory magnet.
