ALB Detector Dog Feasibility Study
USDA Detector Dogs are participating in a feasibility study to detect the presence of the invasive Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB); an invasive insect that's killing trees in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Ohio. The four dogs currently working on the project are being trained to recognize beetle "frass" or excrement that the beetle leaves behind. The study is part of an important mission to protect neighborhood trees and this country's valuable forest resources from this harmful pest.
