1979 Pioneer SA-9800 100W Fluoroscan Amplifier in action after repair & restoration

After a painstaking repair & restoration, this glorious Top Of The Line Pioneer SA-9800 100W per channel power amplifier having dual power supplies, is singing gloriously again! The sound detail that these amplifiers generate, coupled with very low distortion (Non Switching Amps) is amazing. This amp made my 1977 Yamahas 690 sing beautifully! N.B. - A word of caution; NSA amplifiers are complex and unless one knows exactly what he's doing, it would be best to take it to a qualified tech or ultimately if they are working fine, these are to be left alone. They are immensely unforgiving and any slight modification (like installing transistors that are not really really close to the originals) will result in extreme distortion which ultimately might end up blowing the transistors. Some work performed: main filtering caps uprated from 15000uF @ 71V to 22000uF @ 80V for better low frequency "Punch" 8X Main rectifier diodes uprated from the original 3A 200V (SR3AM-4) to 10A 700V (10A07-T) Tone control transistors (including the dual ones, 2SA798) replaced with New Old stock ones, and New Nichicon Audio Grade caps fitted. Subsonic filter board capacitors renewed with Nichicon Audio Grade capacitors Fluorescent Display caps (Low ESR & High temperature 105 Deg) renewed & calibrated as per service manual (8.9V on output and set to 10W) Main amplifier transistors & Diodes ALL renewed to modern equivalents which exceed the specs of the originals. New Old Stock 2SA979 & 2SC2291 dual transistors too & New Old stock higher power output transistors. Re-set the idle current, DC offset, etc to factory specs. Linear Power supply furnished with new, high temperature & Low ESR capacitors. Protection Circuit renewed with New transistors & Capacitors, again, Low ESR and high temperature All boards were re-soldered etc Soundtrack: Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells II (1992) Repair & Restoration performed by CSB Electronics.
