However, this is only the number of countries where English is an "official language," and it doesn't necessarily mean that the majority of the population speaks English fluently or on a daily basis. On the other hand, there are countries where English is not an official language but where the population has high English proficiency, but these countries are not included in this 62-country list. For this reason, answering the question "How many countries speak English?" is difficult in the first place. For now, based on the Wikipedia article above, I've estimated the number to be roughly 60, making it a nice round number.
