Šmihelovec (2118 m) skriti razglednik med Zadnjo Trento in Bavšico | Zapotoški slapovi

Šmihelovec is a completely unknown peak to most hikers, hidden right on the border between two stunning valleys – Zadnja Trenta and Bavšica. From its summit, reached by a demanding unmarked route, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking view of the most beautiful peaks of the Goriška part of the Julian Alps. 🏞 This time, I was joined by Uroš. We started our hike in Zadnja Trenta and climbed via Planina Zapotok. From there, we followed an unmarked hunters’ trail, which higher up joins the marked path leading from the Špiček Shelter toward Bavški Grintavec. Just below the Kanja Saddle, we turned right onto a completely unmarked route that led us into a remote, wild little valley between Šmihelovec and Zagorelec. In the middle of the valley, a view opens up to a gully on the left side of the peak — we headed toward its upper end, from where only about five minutes of easy scrambling separated us from the summit. 🧗‍♂️ We descended back along the same route to the valley and continued along the marked trail under Bavški Grintavec, returning to Planina Zapotok. There, we followed a small stream down to some beautiful turquoise pools that begin just a few dozen meters above the gorge of the Zapotoški Waterfalls.
