He led successful military campaigns in Gaul, defeating tribes like the Helvetii, Belgae, and Arverni, and extended Roman control to the Rhine River. When political tensions escalated, he crossed the Rubicon in 49 B.C., triggering a civil war. Victorious in Italy, Greece, and Egypt, he returned to Rome and enacted major reforms, including the Julian calendar and urban development.
