Power Thief! Fixing The Bias Current on Marantz PM7000N Amplifier
I noticed that my Marantz hifi amplifier was running very hot, and using a surprising amount of power, even when used at low volumes (or sitting silent). This video is about my exploration and correction of the problem. At the very end I also include a tip on reducing the amp's standby power, but the issue will probably apply to many household "smart" devices. In this video: 00:00 Introduction 00:40 Look inside and DC offset checks 03:34 DC bias investigation (shocker!) and adjustments 17:22 Crossover distortion checks after bias adjustment 22:27 Circuit diagram and attempt to explain the bias adjustment 25:51 Standby power - another vampire device!
