Women and the Afterlife in Roman Egypt
This is one of a series of short videos created in collaboration with National Museums Scotland (www.nms.ac.uk) and the educational charity Classics for All (classicsforall.org.uk). These are designed to complement the national curriculum in Classical Studies currently being offered in Scotland, but undoubtedly have a far wider application for any young learner interested in the subject. In this video, Dr Margaret Maitland (Principal Curator, Ancient Mediterranean) discusses topics relating to the lived experience of women in Greco-Roman Egypt, and regarding the ways in which funerary practice evolved and emphasised the role of women within their society.
