Dr. Steffen Schwarz of the Coffee Consulate in Germany has more than 20 years of experience in the industry. He is both a researcher, consultant, coffee trader, and an entrepreneur. In 2019 he arranged the world's first Liberica coffee roasting championship and expo in Borneo. Around 1870 it was taken from Liberia in West Africa and planted in other parts of the world. Initially, it was believed to be a potential Arabica rival. However, due to leaf rust it was more or less abandoned by 1895. Some Liberica trees have survived in the wild until now. After more than 120 years in relative obscurity, the coffee world is starting to rediscover Liberica coffee.
