Destination: Europe! The 94th Infantry Division in England, 1944
In this World War II 80th Anniversary 1944-2024 Documentary, Wim Schelberg explores the history behind the 94th Infantry Division crossing the Atlantic for the European Theater of Operations, August 1944. Using original World War II archival footage of troops landing in England in 1944, Wim Schelberg follows the voyage of the 94th Infantry Division across the Atlantic, and into the European Theater of Operations. The division landed with the RMS Queen Elizabeth near Greenock, Scotland, after crossing the Atlantic in less than six days. The morning of 12 August, 1944, the troops of the 94th began debarking from the Queen Elizabeth. Debarkation was completed on 13 August and the division moved to temporary stations in southern England. There, the division would receive all the vehicles and equipment it needed for its crossing into France, where it would oppose German troops from the U-Boat bases of Brittany to German cities on the Rhine River. --------- CHAPTERS 0:00 introduction 0:09 the Queen Elizabeth 0:18 Troops debarking at the Firth of Clyde 0:34 Wim Schelberg talks bout the voyage across the Atlantic 1:21 Arriving in England 1:55 The beginning of the Debarkation: 12 August 1944 2:12 Entering the Lighters to get to shore 2:35 Reception by personnel of the Transportation Corps 3:10 Red Cross: hot coffee and doughnuts! 3:40 Into the trains 4:12 The division moves to it temporary stations 4:40 The members of the Advance Party 5:40 Division Headquarters Location in England 6:00 Location of the Infantry Regiments 6:31 The 94th Infantry Division Special Teams 6:50 RAF Airfields around the 94th Infantry Division camps 7:15 Time for Recreation and Sightseeing 7:40 Bomb damage in London 8:10 Conclusion --------- The 94th Infantry Division Historical Research Center is a non-profit initiative by Wim Schelberg dedicated to researching the 94th Infantry Division during world War 2 and keep the history of this division alive.
