02 Nova Scotia Lunenburg B
Nova Scotia – Lunenburg Area May 20 – May 24, 2026 The Lunenburg city park, a location on a hill inside of this pretty fishing port. The port itself might take only a day or two to explore. It is a good base to visit other area sights. The Bluenose II is a full-size replica of the original North Atlantic Grand Banks fishing and racing schooner. Check out the Canadian dime to see the “Queen of the North Atlantic.” Excellent dining at The Salt Shaker Deli and tapas Bar Salvador. Peggy’s Cove and the iconic, red-and-white lighthouse, a must-see when in Nova Scotia’s South Shore, is an active fishing village. Generations of fishermen have moored their boats in the narrow inlet, surrounded by colorful wooden houses perched along that narrow inlet. Bruce warned us of the hazardous rocks. Rogue waves are common. The wet, dark rocks are exceedingly slippery and treacherous. Hidden reefs make rescue by boat nearly impossible. The Sou’Wester is a good restaurant with a commanding view of the lighthouse. The picturesque fishing village has served as a stunning backdrop for several television shows and movies, including: Christmas Island (2023): This Hallmark Channel movie prominently features the famous Peggy's Point Lighthouse and surrounding coastal views. Christmas with Holly (2012): Another Hallmark production that utilized the rustic charm of Peggy's Cove. Sullivan's Crossing (2023–2026): While a TV series rather than a movie, this hit drama frequently uses Peggy's Cove for establishing aerial shots and motorbike scenes. Cloudburst (2011): This road-trip drama starring Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker filmed key scenes along the South Shore, including the Peggy's Cove area. The Ovens Natural Park is a privately owned reserve by the Chapin family. Yes, actually the owner is Harry Chapin's brother. Their campground accepts vintage type trailers and RVs under 30 feet in length. This area had a gold rush, June 1861, that lasted six years, petered out, miners abandoned the area. Blue Rocks is just one of many picturesque fishing villages along Nova Scotia’s shores. Blue Rocks lives up to what you’d envision: quaint shanties, small harbour, friendly locals. Mahone Bay is another of the many picturesque fishing villages along Nova Scotia’s shores. While several gift shops and restaurants are available, the Mug and Anchor Pub is Karen & Bruce’s favorite Mahone Bay watering hole. The Woolly Jumpers perform regularly. On the road through Petite Riviere and La Have, we pass Crescent Beach. Rissers Beach Campground at Crescent Beach will be investigated for our next camping adventure. Passing through small fishing villages dotting the coastline we find artists Always and Blais and their shop named Maritime Painted Saltbox. Their funky folk art reflects village and maritime themes. The Shore Club Lobster Dinners hosts one of many lobster suppers scattered throughout the Canadian Atlantic Maritimes. No frills, reasonable prices, exceptional hosts and servers, and the featured artist: LOBSTER. The day’s catch, fresh from the ocean. Just can’t be beat.
