They caused a furor in the early 80s and now fetch prices of vertigo. We honor the Game & Watch, the "slot machines" LCD Nintendo, a visionary invention cemented an empire. Between 1982 and 1991 they went on sale eight different models: Donkey Kong Jr., Mario's Cement Factory, Manhole, Tropical Fish, Super Mario Bros., Climber, Balloon Fight and said Mario The Juggler. However, the launch of Game Boy left obsolete the Game & Watch and its imitators, bringing the portable gaming to a new dimension. Still, these old and beloved "little machines" (as they were called castizamente parents and kids of the time), still occupy an honored place in the heart, and the shelves of many who now rondamos 40. Two trips, one train and another car were the germ of Game & Watch, one of the greatest phenomena of 80. The video game industry today it would be very different if, in 1977, Gunpei Yokoi had not paid attention to his companion seat during a journey by train from Tokyo to Kyoto, an office killing time playing with your LCD calculator. A Yokoi, and then father of some of the most successful toys Nintendo, an idea came to mind: why not take advantage of the affordable LCD technology to build a portable video game, able to be stored in a pocket? By chance days later, Yokoi (the only Nintendo with a car with the steering wheel on the left) had to replace the ailing driver of the legendary Hiroshi Yamauchi, president of Nintendo, to drive the limo boss, who was also import and had the steering wheel on the opposite side (the Japanese, like the British, drive on the left lane). To liven up the trip, Yokoi told his idea to Yamauchi, and a week later this burst into his office with Akira Saeki, CEO of Sharp, then the No. 1 maker of LCD screens for calculators. The equally visionary Yamauchi had understood instantly the enormous business opportunities offered by the idea Yokoi, and that same 1977 would give the green light to the development of what would become the phenomenon Game & Watch. After three years of stormy development on Nintendo's engineers worked alongside Sharp to squeeze the full potential of the LCD screen, the first machine, Ball, arrive in stores in May 1980. The name Game & watch came led by another genius of Gunpei Yokoi and one of its engineers, Satoru Okada, why not also incorporate play an alarm clock? Thus was born the Game & Watch concept, a way to provide a 2x1 in exchange for an attractive price: 5,800 yen. The Game & Watch series is a line of 59 portable game consoles made by Nintendo and created by Gunpei Yokoi from 1980 to 1991. They had one game with LCD screen as well as being a clock and alarm. Some of the titles of the Game & Watch format were Pinball, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros., Mickey Mouse and Balloon Fight. These days, getting these handhelds is extremely difficult and are considered historical pieces and collectibles. The Game & Watch Nintendo format made history and soon, all the major brands tried to recreate. The company Tiger Electronics produced a line of video games with the theme of Star Wars. On the back platform Game Boy, there have been a number of collections of these Game & Watch games with modernized versions apart from the original version. Structure of a Game & Watch [edit] The Game & Watch in the background, is a calculator that is built to perform actions on the image. Its controls make the character or the tool you see on the LCD screen, change and make the illusion of movement. The image is connected next to each other, giving rise to a control, like a new button, which lists the score or number of lives that are lost. To work, it requires a battery power calculator. In its game modes, Tenenemos Game A (usually normal difficulty), Game B (usually high difficulty) and time (Time), which serves as a portable clock. The time works in conjunction with an alarm, which is configurable with the alarm button (pressing it with the tip of a pencil) and pressing the Left (left) and Right (right) buttons to change them. The alarm sounds at the given time and it is almost always the case in all portable Game & Watch. The alarm bell is insufficient to some ears.
