「臼杵祇園まつり」開幕、絶品手打ちそばと熱気あふれる山車練習

In this edition of "Yu-waku Correspondent," we bring you the excitement of the Usuki Gion Festival, one of Oita Prefecture's three major Gion Festivals, which kicks off this weekend! First, we visited Horikawa Omoya, a restaurant that has introduced new menu items this year, as a gourmet spot to enjoy along with the festival. The handmade soba noodles, made by the owner who trained in Kyoto, are thin and firm, making them a perfect dish to cool off during the upcoming hot weather. Afterward, we interviewed the people of Shinmachi and Hamamachi, who are diligently practicing with great enthusiasm in preparation for the main event. In our interview with the group leaders, they passionately spoke about the characteristics and highlights of each district's float, and their extraordinary passion for the festival. Watching the lively music and practice scenes up close, I myself was moved as I recalled the view from the float and the daily music practice I experienced last year as a member of the Kakemachi youth group in the "Full-Power Helping Out" program.
