However, as churning began, the heavy mountain started sinking into the ocean floor. To save the mission, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of a gigantic tortoise (Kurma Avatar), dived to the bottom, and supported the mountain on His shell. The Bhagavatam notes that the scratching of the mountain on His back felt like a pleasant massage to the Lord. The Stabilizer: To keep the mountain steady from spinning out of control, Lord Vishnu appeared in an invisible form to hold the top of Mount Mandara, while also infusing energy into both the weary Devas and Asuras. The Deliverer of Amrita (Dhanvantari): When the ultimate prize finally emerged from the ocean, it was Lord Vishnu’s partial expansion, Dhanvantari (the physician of the gods), who appeared carrying the golden pot of Amrita. The Supreme Enchanter (Mohini Avatar): The Asuras immediately snatched the nectar. To trick them, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Mohini, an incomparably beautiful woman. Completely infatuated by Her charm, the Asuras handed over the pot, and Mohini cleverly distributed the Amrita exclusively to the Devas, ensuring the preservation of cosmic order.
