Painting Port-de-Paix (Haiti): A 2018 Trellis Arch Voyage by OWLEY

In September of 2018, a team of artists and volunteers from education-based non-profit Trellis Arch traveled to Port-de-Paix, Haiti to donate medical and school supplies and create public art murals for communities affected by extreme poverty. An area not well known to most of the modern world, Port-de-Paix was once one of the world’s greatest exporters of major agricultural staples like coffee and bananas. It is a community with a rich and vibrant culture sustained through generations of political turmoil and natural disasters by the strength and resilience of its people. Here, resources are scarce and, as a result, most children and adults do not have the means to attain a modern education. By incorporating public art projects and documenting visits to hospitals, orphanages, and schools, the Trellis Arch team discovers what is most needed in this beautiful, overlooked part of the world, and how the smallest contributions – even painting a wall - can positively change lives forever.
