Lenguas indígenas: Damana (Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Magdalena)

Damana is the language of the Wiwa people, which has been historically threatened by several factors: the Spanish conquest, violence from outlaw groups, and the occupation of lands in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta by settlers. The Salemakú Zertuga Ethno-Educational Institution, in the Gotsezhy reservation (Ciénaga, Magdalena), has indigenous Wiwa teachers who spread Western knowledge in their native language. Some of them have been able to study with support from the Foundation for Community Human Development. This documentary is part of "Living Languages: In Indigenous Words," a journalistic special that toured seven departments of the country to learn about the efforts of indigenous leaders in the revitalization of their native languages.
