Génova - MxM - Europa Imperial 2022

Genoa boasts one of the largest historic centers in all of Europe, where the stories of the families who have lived in the city have woven together over the centuries across its more than 113 hectares. Genoa's streets also conceal over 100 palaces from the 16th and 17th centuries, through which nobles, shipowners, and merchants displayed the region's opulence. But if there's one thing that truly characterizes this region of northern Italy, it's its coastline and beaches, which, together with its colorful houses, create a magical and unparalleled landscape. And we begin our journey through its historic center, where, at the entrance, we find the Porta Soprana, the ancient city gates for anyone arriving from the east. Once in the center, we get a sense of the sheer number of vicoli, narrow alleyways that wind through the city, turning it into a veritable labyrinth. In the old town also stands its main religious building, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, dedicated to this Spanish saint. On its façade is an element known for bringing good luck to anyone who touches it: a dog carved in stone. It represents the pet of one of the cathedral's workers who died while working on the project, and the worker decided to depict it in the temple in his memory.
