What are the most interesting flags in the world? Just as a person’s style can say a lot about them, flags can say a lot about the country, region or state they represent. There are 197 recognized countries in the world and each one has its own national flag. Bright Side has carefully studied flags from all over the world and found many interesting coincidences, as well as unusual and fun facts that we never suspected. Most flags are rectangular, but what about the few that aren’t? And what do all those colors and symbols really mean? We’re about to answer these questions and more. Today, we’re going to focus on 32 countries with the most creative national flags! Most flags, 55 to be exact, are horizontal and feature three tricolor stripes in their design. Red, white and blue, as you may have noticed, are the most popular colors, at least one of them is present on the flags of almost every country. And flags are as different as their people. Sure, some of them are similar, but that doesn't make them the same. Each and every one of them is totally unique and has its own special story, just like us! These triangles represent the two peaks of Mount Everest, which is on the border with Nepal. The flag of Vatican City, also known as the Holy See, is inspired by that of the early Papal States and includes a representation of the Vatican coat of arms. The Bahamas is completely unique, with the blue hues on the flag representing the water surrounding the islands. One of the youngest national flags in the world belongs to the Republic of Seychelles. It is only 22 years old, placing it in that awkward place between Generations Y and Z. The easily recognizable Canadian flag is adorned with a maple leaf. However, its representation of a maple leaf does not exist in nature: it has only 11 points as opposed to the almost 20 that can appear on a real leaf. The Paraguayan flag is also quite unique: it is double-sided! The Portuguese flag is the only one to feature a scientific device in its design. Behind the Portuguese shield in its national coat of arms is an armillary sphere, used to calculate coordinates in astronomy Bhutan's has a dragon to allude to the country's Tibetan name, which translates to "The Land of the Dragon". The Brazilian flag is a green rectangle with a yellow diamond in the middle. Inside it is a blue circle representing a starry night. Romania and Chad have a problem with their flags, which feature three vertical stripes in blue, yellow and red.
